Radar

PDF

radarRadar is a song written by Karlsson, Winnberg, Henrik Jonback, Balewa Muhammad, Candice Nelson, Ezekiel "Zeke" Lewis, Patrick Smith, and produced by Bloodshy & Avant and The Clutch for American pop-singer Britney Spears' fifth studio album Blackout (Released in October 2007). The track is to be the fourth single released officially from the album with a release sometime in late June or early July 2008, following a statement released by The Clutch. Its accompanying music video is rumored to be directed by pop-idol Britney Spears herself. On May 8, 2008 the single's cover was leaked onto the internet via a Britney Spears related fan website forums...

Radar is one of the best tracks on the Blackout album in my opinion, I find myself singing it all the time out loud.

The track received mostly positive reviews as a whole. Blender gave the track a positive review, stating it has a hook "most pop stars would kill for." Stephen Thomas Erlewine of All Music Guide called it "relentless," and was chosen as one of the album's highlights. Digital Spy commented that Radar is “A rave-tinged electro blipathon on which Spears is vocodered to the point of sounding extraterrestrial Whereas The Guardian criticised the song, saying it was "bending over backwards to annoy the listener."

The song is rhythmically and lyrically similar to Spears's Grammy Award-winning single "Toxic". Both of which incorporate influences of electropop, synthpop, and dance. In MTV's review of Blackout, "Radar" was described as

...an electro/Eurodisco approach, but keeps Spears' vocals more in the foreground. Instead of emulating a video game, she's accompanied sparingly by sonar pulses and distorted synths to keep the sound dangerous, because she's on the prowl. 'I got my eye on you.' she speaks at one point. 'I can't let you get away'.

The music video for "Radar" will mark the second time Spears has directed a Music video herself (after her video for "Do Somethin'" in 2005,which was one of her best videos ever). Apparently a source indicated that Britney Spears wants to direct the video to "make sure it's exactly right". The storyline of the video is currently unknown. But it is thought to follow the events of "Break the Ice", since the end of the video says "To be continued". The "Radar" music video is rumored to begin filming in late June 2008.

Due to its strong digital sales, "Radar" had a brief appearance on several U.S. Billboard component charts on the week the album Blackout debuted on the Billboard 200. The song peaked at number sixty-eight on the Billboard Pop 100 as well as on number fifty-two on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs. "Radar" also charted on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart at number seven which would be equivalent to number 107 on the Billboard Hot 100, if the chart ran past one-hundred places.
