In My Arms

PDF

inmyarms"In My Arms" is a dance-pop song performed by Australian singer Kylie Minogue for her tenth studio album, X (2007). The song was written by Minogue, Paul Harris, Julian Peake, Richard Stannard, Adam Wiles and produced by Stannard and Calvin Harris. The song was released as the album's first single in Spain in November 2007, second in Europe single in February 2008, and third in UK and Australia on May 5th, 2008.

"In My Arms" received mostly positive reviews from pop music critics. Tom Ewing in a review for Pitchfork Media compared the song to French electronic music duo Justice and wrote that Minogue "bounces around the tune with gusto". Prefix Magazine reviewer Bruce Scott described it as "fuzzed-out" and "synth heavy", and wrote that it was "full of the kind of exuberant charm that made a track like "Love at First Sight" a past hit". In a review for Allmusic, Christopher True was not impressed with "In My Arms" and called the song "cold, calculated dance-pop".

Music video

The music video for "In My Arms" was directed by Melina and filmed in Los Angeles, California along with the video for "Wow". The video features several references to the 1980s style and music. There are five main sequences: the first features Minogue dressed in a crimson and white outfit, made by Gareth Pugh, with futuristic sunglasses; the second has Minogue singing into a microphone, on a blue recording room; the third scene is with a troupe of dancers; the fourth features Minogue in a yellow dress dancing in a pink box; and in the final scene she dances in front of a giant fan wearing a Dolce & Gabbana dress. As the video concludes, the five scenes are intercut and gradually fade.

The music video premiered on the internet on January 29, 2008. It premiered on television stations in Europe on January 31, 2008.

As of July 11, 2008 the video received 6,335,250 views on YouTube; it peaked at 33 in Most Viewed (All Time) - Music and 59 in Most Viewed (All Time) - All.  Also it is the highest viewed video by Kylie Minogue, second being "Wow" with nearly 4,000,000.

Spanish version

As an attempt to break the Latin American music market, EMI Music asked Mexican singer/songwriter Aleks Syntek to record some vocals in Spanish for the song in early 2008. The song was first published through Syntek's official YouTube Channel on 24th April 2008, and was later confirmed by EMI and the Mexican press that the song was indeed real and was set to be released to Mexican radio stations in the last week of April.

It was later confirmed that the song would make an inclusion on Syntek's compilation album, Best of 1988-2008, set to be released in June 2008 in Mexico and as a bonus track in the Spanish edition of his studio album, Lección de Vuelo, set to be released in the summer of 2008. A special Latin American edition of X is also planned, but no official release date has been given as of yet. The song re-entered the charts after charting with Kylie's version and so far has gone on to become a top twenty hit peaking at number nineteen. The song became a massive radio hit topping the international chart for three conesecutive weeks.
